Access control and networking…Amplified to the next level
PSA TEC AMPLIFIED BLOG SERIES | PLATINUM SPONSOR
The theme of TEC 2018 is “Amplified.” We gave this phrase to several people who are involved in TEC in a variety of ways – from PSA employees to TEC attendees, speakers and exhibitors. They were asked to share what the phrase means to them and how the theme ties into TEC 2018.

Don’t let the definition of the word amplify fool you. While the audiophiles of the world may believe it’s all about sound, the synonyms for the word amplify prove it to mean so much more. For the security industry, emerging technologies expand the abilities of access control installations, increase the reach of network security devices and raise the bar for future technological developments.
The reach of security has been amplified tremendously with the advent of composite fiber. To protect the perimeter can be a daunting task, particularly when the perimeter does not have the power infrastructure available
With new access control and power integration solutions, system design gives way to expanding the number of access controlled doors and their associated power supplies while decreasing the amount of wall space required to mount such equipment. The ability to leverage access control from leading brands and incorporate mission-critical power for large systems leads to amplified profits. Not only will the enclosure increase the amount of access control and decrease the required wall space, but features incorporated into the solution such as removable backplanes gives contractors the ability to lower on-site labor costs. While assembling backplanes with favored power supplies and access control hardware and completing the inter-wiring of these components in shop, the enclosures can be mounted on site and the necessary conduit can be piped in advance to reduce installation time. The leader in power and data transmission products utilizes a feat of engineering to increase the number of components that will fit inside these enclosures. The ability to stack power distribution boards on top of voltage regulators boosts the amount of space on the backplane to allow for more components.
The reach of security has been amplified tremendously with the advent of composite fiber. To protect the perimeter can be a daunting task, particularly when the perimeter does not have the power infrastructure available. The edge can now be set even further as composite fiber consists of single or multi-mode fiber in the same jacket with two conductors as big as 12awg copper wire. Extreme distances for power and data transmission can now be achieved in a single cable. Rack mounted power supplies designed to push 56VDC at up to 120W on a single output means that a single 15W IP camera can receive power from a head-end that may be over 13,000 feet away. Hardened switching equipment designed to support one to eight devices offers a cost-effective alternative that expands the perimeter and improves the reach of security and surveillance.
Nothing can boost the profitability of a service department like the ability to control, monitor and report power over the network from anywhere. The aforementioned technology is enhanced by the ability to pre-emptively replace a failing device or potentially troubleshoot, diagnose and repair a problem without rolling a truck. All of these solutions are designed to amplify the security and peace of mind of the customers we serve.
EDUCATION PRESENTED BY ALTRONIX:
Merging Infrastructure with Emerging TechnologyPresented by Altronix Tuesday, March 13 10:00 AM – 10:50 AMThis presentation will cover use of different cabling infrastructures and deployment of Altronix technologies to the benefit of the systems integrator and end-user customers. Product and labor savings will be realized by leveraging fiber, coax and UTP infrastructures with our NetWay, NetWay Spectrum, Pace and eBridge solutions. Deploying mission critical security and surveillance systems at extreme distances and over unique cabling types can be accomplished quickly and with advanced features.
