Leadership Lesson: Set Life Goals

November 12, 2015

In order to be a more effective leader, you must think, inspire, energize, connect, and act like a leader.  Here is a quick tip to help escalate your accomplishments as a leader by setting some life goals:

Successful people and leaders often chart new directions defined by goals. These individuals know what they want to achieve, outline how they are going to get there, and have the entire plan drawn out in some form of progression.  Both short-term and long-term goals are critical elements comprising a strategic plan. The same practice applied to business goals can also be quite effective when forming life goals. Creating life goals will help you to wake up with a purpose.

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”  – Tony Robbins, 1960-Present

The first step in charting a new course begins with drafting your long term goals, followed by establishing the sometimes daily short term tactics you need to execute to get there.  Harness your inner passion to sustain the drive necessary to achieve those daily objectives. Diligently chipping away at the short term goals soon amasses to great achievements when your efforts remain goal directed. .

Try this:

Begin with a thoughtful review of the big picture. Perhaps your long term goal requires a five-year plan. Maintain the progression of short-term goals through frequent reviews and updates. Adjust as needed. In addition, remember to take time to enjoy the small victories along the way.
