ISC West Roundup 2014: Notes from Vegas

ISC West 2014 was big, and by all accounts, a successful show. Organizers reported that the event attracted more than 26,000 industry professionals and more than “1,000 exhibiting companies and brands.”

New this year was lots of talk about 4K, and like the past couple of years, there was continued talk of mobility, cloud, wireless tech, and home automation/security. During booth visits and social events, it seems everyone wanted to chat a bit about new players. New players come in two forms. For those involved with residential security, the new players are the cablecos and telecoms. Even through the recession, Northland Control Systems Inc., Freemont, Calif., grew quickly as a mid-sized integrator specializing in products from Lenel Systems International, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.
